In
the fall of 1936 Mr. And Mrs. H. C. Frederick opened a small
family-operated furniture store in downtown Grundy Center. They
employed only four people and featured fine quality furniture and floor
covering at fair prices. The business grew and prospered through the
years, and after WWII and the Korean Conflict, their two sons Bruce and
Craig Frederick joined the firm as partners.
The
original location was what is now the east half of the main store
building. In 1963 the west half was purchased, and the entire building
was remodeled, including additional balcony floor space, office areas,
and the white brick storefront as seen today. In 1965 Mr. And Mrs.
Craig Frederick became the owners and have operated the business since
that time. Additional buildings have been added to provide more sales
room and more warehouse space.
Today, Frederick Furniture
has four downtown locations and the huge central warehouse located near
the east city limits of Grundy Center. The total floor space of over
45,000 sq.ft. is filled with famous name brand furniture and floor
coverings. Frederick’s feature complete home furnishing and floor
covering service with 16 employees – including two interior design
graduates and four decorator sales consultants – to assist and assure
complete satisfaction.
Frederick’s business philosophy
since 1936 has always been to serve the entire area of Central and
Northeast Iowa with finer quality furniture, floor coverings, and
draperies, at lower prices than available from anyone else and to
provide complete friendly hometown service including decorator advice,
delivery and set up, and full after-sale warranty and service.
